Brigadeiro vs. Truffles: What’s the Difference?
Brigadeiros and chocolate truffles may look alike, but they’re very different treats once you take a bite.
Brigadeiros are Brazil’s most beloved sweet. Made with sweetened condensed milk, cocoa, and butter, they’re slowly cooked until perfectly smooth, fudgy with a caramel consistency. The texture is rich, creamy, and melt-in-your-mouth — never dry or crumbly. In Brazil, brigadeiros are at every celebration, from birthdays to weddings, and they’re meant to be shared.
Chocolate truffles are usually made with ganache (chocolate and cream). They tend to be lighter, more delicate, and very chocolate-forward. Truffles are often dusted with cocoa powder or coated in chocolate and are commonly associated with classic European confections.
So what’s the difference?
It really comes down to the texture. If you want something rich, creamy and a little chewy, Brigadeiro is your guy. If you want something dark, a bit more bitter, and a lighter texture, I move towards the truffle.
If you love chocolate and want to try something a little different, brigadeiros are the perfect bite-sized indulgence. 💛🍫
